Massachusetts Medical Society presents "Physician Focus." "The Misconceptions of Obesity." = = = = = = = = Program for September 2016 The Misconceptions of Obesity For more than a decade, obesity has been recognized as an epidemic in the United States. Despite great attention to this condition, overall rates of obesity in the U.S. have not declined. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 35 percent of American adults have obesity and more than 6 percent have severe obesity. While conventional thinking has focused on diet and exercise as the principal areas to address the condition, new research is showing that obesity is more complex than first thought. Researchers believe there is much more to obesity and weight loss than diet and exercise, and say that effectively treating this disease requires an understanding of many factors involved. This edition of Physician Focus examines many of those factors and what individuals may be able to do about them. Guests: W.
