"Poetry Night" is now a non-competitive, free-form reading event where poets and aspiring poets have an opportunity to showcase their original work in five-minute time slots. Participants are encouraged to use any creative form of expression, such as singing, performing, or using props, to surprise and inspire the audience. Speak Your Art Out! Featured guest NICK SHOLLEY!. FREE with a suggested donation of $10. Bring your friends and invite others to join! Participants are encouraged to bring up to three poems to read or perform and arrive at 6:45 to put their names on a list. About the featured guest: As far as the poetry goes, Nick Sholley started out at the age of 7 or 8 singing songs to himself as he made them up. Through his 20’s, he spent time as a writer’s personal assistant, a photographer, a photo editor, a beer magazine editor, and a legal/financial/advertising administrative assistant, all of it grist for the word mill. While living in California, he acted on stage for over 20 years, directed a few plays, wrote a few plays, got married somewhere in there, had a son a bit later. For the last 15 years, he has been a psychotherapist helping people return to the best version of themselves. Breathing deeply into the belly helps, just as it does when one is in front of an audience. When life is best, he is still scribble/singing. A book of his poetry, condensing decades of songs and not-so-songs, will be available for purchase or long-term loan in the spring of 2024.
