Maestro Serge Koussevitzky hosted a series of lectures and recitals in Sedgwick Hall at the Lenox Library, with a 25 year old protege of Dr. Koussevitzky by the name of Leonard Bernstein at the piano to illustrate the lecture. Bernstein's program will be recreated in Sedgwick Hall, now the Sedgwick Reading Room. Dr. Jeremy Yudkin, Professor of Music at Boston University, has arranged for three pianists to play the challenging repertoire of Bach, Copland, Chopin and Liszt. Pianists Anna Arazi and Haeshin Shin are both doctoral graduates of Boston University. Arazi will perform the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue by Johann S. Bach; the Four Mazurkas, Op. 24, and the Nocturne in F# minor by Frederic Chopin; and the Hungarian Rhapsody, No. 13 by Franz Liszt. Shin will perform the Piano Sonata by Aaron Copland. Though not listed in the original program, a review of the concert indicated that for an encore, Bernstein played "a shot of boogie-woogie." The honors for this section fall to Professor of Piano Boaz Sharon who is also the Director of the Young Artists Piano Program at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Seats are limited. A simulcast at the Lenox Town Hall will be provided by Cutting Edge Video and CTSB TV. The Yamaha grand piano used at this recital has been generously loaned by Falcetti Music of Springfield, Massachusetts. This concert is free to the public, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor to the Lenox Library Association. Location: Sedgwick Reading Room = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
