~A Sevenars Schubertiade ~
(a ready-to-air video exclusively for participating towns' community access cable television)
In addition to our live concerts, we are offering a 60-minute musical video of virtuoso piano solos and duos entitled "A Sevenars Schubertiade" (in honor of Schubert's 225th Birthday),
which will bring the Sevenars festival and the musicians from the Sevenars founding family, the
Schrade Family of Pianists, from Worthington to your town.
Seven members of the Schrade family started performing over 50 years ago, becoming the first
pianists to be listed as a family ensemble on Steinway Artists' prestigious roster (in addition to
their individual listings). The name "Sevenars" originated from all seven "R" names, and their
music festival grew to be "one of the best small music festivals in the USA" (Time Magazine),
drawing devoted listeners to its concerts at Lincoln Center (NY), at the Sevenars festival in
Worthington, MA, on radio and television programs (NBC Today Show, Lifetime TV, WGBH to
name a few), and on commercial recordings.
As individual performers, members of the Schrade family - including Schrade-James members
after the 1978 marriage of Robelyn Schrade to David James - have attracted an equally strong
following, winning prizes and accolades as soloists as well as duo performers. This video will
feature both solos and duos by the great Franz Schubert in the tradition of the Schubertiade,
which lives on at Sevenars. Music ranges from his gracious Waltzes, played by the late Robert
Schrade, to duets from the late Robelyn Schrade - with her husband David James (still a
director) and her brother Randolph Schrade. The program closes with the famously difficult
Wanderer Fantasy, performed here by Rorianne Schrade, now Executive Director of Sevenars.
Featured family musicians (pictured l. to r.) are:
Rorianne Schrade ("a whirlwind unleashed" - Gannett Press),
Randolph Schrade ("agile, intensely musical" - NY Times), and
David James ("electric intensity and brilliant virtuosity” - N.Z. press)
Robert Schrade (“First class by anybody’s standards” - Virgil Thomson,N.Y. Herald Tribune)
Robelyn Schrade-James ('unfailing mistress of the keyboard" - N.Y. Daily News)
We will share this recording with your local community access cable TV station to be played as often as desired in
the year 2022, from the date of confirmation (estimated to be early in the year) through the end of December
2022. In addition we will offer a friendly pre-concert (30-min) Zoom discussion with a Q&A option.
