The Berkshire Eagle Local Journalism Fund presents "Thinking Globally—A Conversation with Wendy Sherman and Marty Baron," August 4, 2025

Description

Sherman, Baron headline ‘Eagle Thinks Globally’ Aug. 4 talk will launch 2025 Local Journalism Fund campaign Dear Reader, The Berkshire Eagle is proud to present “The Eagle Thinks Globally,” a conversation between Wendy Sherman and Marty Baron — two of our neighbors who have spent years close to the center of international affairs. This conversation will mark the formal start of the 2025 campaign for The Eagle’s Local Journalism Fund. We established the fund several years ago in partnership with the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation to help The Eagle remain financially stable while expanding our reporting — without sharply increasing the price we charge readers. Wendy Sherman served as deputy secretary of state from 2021 to 2023, and was previously the lead American negotiator for the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. She is also a frequent contributor to CNN and MSNBC. Marty Baron recently retired as executive editor of The Washington Post, an experience he chronicled in his book, “Collision of Power: Trump, Bezos and The Washington Post.” He was previously the editor of the Miami Herald and The Boston Globe. Both Wendy and Marty have homes in South Berkshire. “The Eagle Thinks Globally” will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at St. James Place, 352 Main St. in Great Barrington. Purchasers of VIP tickets will be invited to attend a post-conversation reception with the speakers in the Great Hall at St. James Place. I recently found a Berk-shire Eagle T-shirt that’s been in my drawer since before COVID-19. It says: “Think Global, Read Local.” We’ve long proclaimed that The Eagle is relentlessly local. No other news organization covers the news, sports and features that occur throughout the Berkshires like our staff of about 30 reporters, photographers, designers and editors do every day. However, we are aware that the Berkshires do not exist in a vacuum. We have a responsibility to report on national and international events as well. On Aug. 4, we will have a chance to truly “think global.” It promises to be a memorable event and one that I expect will sell out quickly. VIP tickets are $120 and include access to the post-conversation reception with the speakers in the Great Hall. General admission tickets to the conversation are $35. Tickets can be purchased online at berkshireeagle.com/tickets, or by calling The Eagle’s customer service representatives during business hours at 413-496-6355. I hope to see you when “The Eagle Thinks Globally.” In the meantime, thank you for reading The Eagle and for supporting quality, independent local journalism.
